While several members of the employment tribunal have reached the end of their terms, the process to elect new members to fill the vacancies has been delayed.

As of now, three key members—President Aminath Abdulla Zuhair, Vice-President Fathimath Maheera Mohamed, and MP Abdulla Mifraz Nizar—have seen their terms expire.

This situation has left the tribunal with only two remaining members: Hassan Ibrahim and Mariam Rishfa. Rishfa, appointed for a five-year term, will serve until August 10, 2026, while Hassan's term concludes on March 16, 2025.

Despite the vacancies, no new appointments have been made, leading to a shortage of members.

Ibrahim Khaleel, the Communications Minister at the President's Office, clarified that the appointment of tribunal members falls under the President's authority. He assured that new appointments will be made promptly to address the current shortfall.
