The Institute for Global Success (IGS) will mark the first World Space Week in Maldives from October 4 to 10.

Revealing that the Ministry of Education was offering full cooperation, IGS' founder and CEO Rifath Mohamed, the national coordinator for World Space Week in Maldives, expressed hopes that several students would join in the activities held in schools across the country.

The majority of activities for 2020, held on the theme 'Satellites Improve Life', will be conducted through virtual means due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Maldivian students are invited to participate in a lecture series featuring famous astronauts, space scientists and experts.

A complete list of events for students can be viewed on the Facebook and Twitter platforms of World Space Week Maldives.

The American Centre of Maldives (ACM) will also celebrate World Space Week.

Following its declaration by the United Nations General Assembly in 1999, World Space Week celebrations are led by the World Space Week Association (WASA), in accordance with recommendations by the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) and UN Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA).

World Space Week is celebrated through space education and outreach events held by space agencies, aerospace companies, schools, planetaria, museums, and astronomy clubs across the world.
