Tree Top Hospital has requested permission from the Ministry of Health to commence IVF in the Maldives.
A media official from the hospital said that they have submitted a request to the Ministry for permission and certificates to commence IVF services. He also said that the Ministry is following through with the necessary actions in this regard.
The available treatments for infertility IUI and IVF. IUI treatment is the only available procedure currently in the Maldives. Therefore, people have to travel abroad to seek IVF treatment which becomes expensive as it is not covered under Aasandha insurance scheme.
Tree Top hospital has stated that once the license is obtained they plan to offer the treatment under the Aasandha scheme. They have also trained doctors and staff abroad to commence IVF treatment.
Adil Moosa, COO of the hospital, had previously stated that the aim of the hospital is to provide IVF services so people will not have to travel abroad to seek the treatment.
"This will be a great development for the Maldives as well as for the hospital. This is one of the biggest projects we will be launching that will benefit the Maldivian economy as well".
