Over a year has passed since the medicine required for the treatment of diarrhea and vomiting has been unobtainable. Investigation on the cause will begin with a formal notice of unavailability, says MFDA, which they state has not been lodged thus far.
Over a year has passed since Maldives has seen the availability of the medicine, Nutrolin B Syrup and Capsule used for the treatment of Gastroenteritis which typically causes diarrhea and vomiting.
Multiple pharmacies reported that many complaints of citizens have surfaced due to the medicine's unavailability.
An official from Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) shared with Mihaaru News that no complaints have been lodged regarding unavailability of general medicine thus far. They said that, however, it has been known from citizens that this specific medicine has been unobtainable.
"We have never received a formal submission that the medicine is unobtainable. We will investigate the cause of the scarcity and unavailability of this medicine once a formal request is lodged.
In review of the most recent statistics disclosed by the Health Protection Agency, approximately 5,386 cases of diarrhea and vomiting has been reported during the month of January.
