State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has urged the public to avoid installing steel-based advertisement boards that are inserted into the ground, as they could potentially interfere with the main electricity network connecting Male’ and Hulhumale’.

STELCO has laid cables connecting Male’ and Hulhumale’ from their office to ‘Usfasgandu’ and across the bridge and highway. However, steel bars have been inserted into the ground to erect billboards for the upcoming parliamentary elections.

In a statement released today, STELCO stated that a large percentage of the city’s electricity is currently supplied via the cable.

According to STELCO, if the main network cable is damaged, it will disrupt electricity in the area and require a significant amount of time to fix.

STELCO further stated that the cable network is energized, and inserting foreign objects such as steel that may puncture the cable could pose a risk to human life.

“We urge the regulators and individuals who issue permits for erecting advertisement boards to be more responsible. We urge them to pay more attention to these issues and take necessary measures to maintain network safety and ensure uninterrupted electricity services,” STELCO said.

STELCO added that they will take legal action and seek financial compensation from those responsible for the damage of the cable network or electricity service disruption.
