State Electric Company (STELCO) announces new housing project in Vilimale'.

The announcement was made by the utility provider's Managing Director Mr. Ahmed Shareef during a ceremony held on Saturday evening, July 23, to introduce the new chairman of STELCO, formed Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Didi.

Shareef, during the ceremony, confirms of seeking permission from STELCO's board for a go-ahead with the new housing project.

"I would like to conclude my speech on a happy note, hopefully we will commence a new housing project soon," the utility provider's front man affirmed while addressing the employees.

The planned Thilamale' Bridge, which will intersect Vilimale' is expected to ease transportation between the village island and Male' City, which gives scope for new settlers in the island.

Despite making the announcement of the prospects for the new housing project, Shareef did not disclose further details.

Following STELCO's announcement, the Male' City Council's member for Vilimale' Nahula Ali commented that the new housing project will include 500 units.

She further claimed that majority of the housing units will be allocated to residents of Vilimale'. Her comments follow Vilimale' parliamentary member Ahmed Usham's statements about STELCO's planned project.

Vilimale' MP in his comments, stressed residents of the island will not endorse such a project unless their housing concerns are resolved.

According Nahula, the 500 unit housing project by STELCO falls under the council's five-year strategic action plan.

She had also claimed of holding several discussions alongside a City Council's consultant, with STELCO's managing director regarding the council's action plan for Vilimale'.

Moreover, she notifies that contract signing is expected soon.

Although the City Council member gave additional details about the prospective housing project in Vilimale', she however had not disclosed the planned number of units allocated for Vilimale' residents or the employees of STELCO.

The project is expected to alleviate housing tensions faced by residents of Vilimale', said the Council member.

While STELCO is planning the new project in the island, it had recently announced the rent values of the apartments in Hulhumale' Phase II housing towers.

The housing towers, elevated to 15 stories commenced construction during the previous administration.

STELCO affirms its employees who will be allocated apartments at the Phase II housing towers will be able to enter their new apartment units on August 6.
