A hearing in former President Abdulla Yameen's trial has been scheduled for Monday, with arrangements to broadcast it live.
Yameen is accused of accepting USD 1 million as bribe in the lease of Vaavu atoll Aarah, and for laundering that money. In addition to Yameen, charges in this case have been raised against former Member of Parliament for Felidhoo constituency Yoosuf Naeem. The Criminal Court convicted both in December 2022, but the verdicts were revoked by the High Court this year, ordering a retrial.
Yameen's trial in the case is now ongoing at the Criminal Court, and Monday's hearing is scheduled to be broadcast live.
The decision to broadcast hearings live was made after Yameen appealed to do so at the last hearing.
In addition to the Aarah case, Yameen is also charged with bribery and money laundering in the leasing of Raa atoll Fuggiri. The two cases are heard separately.
