Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has today decided to extend the license renewal period for food service providers by nearly three months in compliance with the Food Safety Act ratified last week.
An announcement published by the authority read that the food production license issued to food service providers registered under the authority or elsewhere has been extended to the 23rd of November prior to implementation of the new Food Safety Act.
Service providers such as hotels, cafe' and restaurants who seek new licenses can apply for the service through the digital public services delivery platform of the Maldivian government, oneGov, MFDA revealed.
Registering drinking water factories and food production companies, as well as drafting a register of home-based food facilities will however be proceeded through the MFDA's 'Dhirithi' portal, they further clarified.
The Maldives Food and Drug Authority, with new authority conferred to them under the new Food Safety Act, was reestablished during the preceding week. Although the authority previously acted without much legal support, the new Act confers them with the authority of monitoring and enforcing action against legal breaches.
