The Supreme Court, today has appointed Judge HusnuSuood as the court's representative at the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), replacing Justice Aisha Shujoon Mohamed.
JSC laws require membership of a judge other than the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court who is himself a member of JSC. Justice Shujoon was appointed to the post in December 2019. Her term expires later this year.
However, it is unclear whether the Supreme Court's decision to appoint Justice HusnuSuood to replace Justice Shujoon was made after Justice Shujoon's dismissal or resignation from JSC.
Members of JSC are appointed by a bench of justices of the Supreme Court.
Justice HusnuSuood, who is also the president of the Maldives Judges' Association, was previously a member of the JSC when he served as Attorney General in 2010.
