In September 2017, Alif Dhaal Maamigili Shady Grove Ibrahim Sammah Ahmed Fathuhy faced charges related to the murder of Moosa Ahmed Manik from Vaavu Keyodhoo Dheyliyage. The victim had been assaulted by a group of men on a motorcycle.
Yesterday, the court concluded that only one person testified that Sammah was the assailant in the attack on Moosa Ahmed. However, the court noted that this witness later informed the court, through a letter, that he had initially provided testimony under intimidation from the State. Consequently, the court deemed the witness's testimony as unreliable, stating, "Therefore, if we look at the testimony of the witness alone, it cannot be construed as a credible witness."
As per the judgment, the State contends that the video footage it presented displays Sammah engaging in the attack. However, the court highlighted the absence of additional supporting evidence. Witness testimonies indicated Sammah's absence from the area at the time, casting doubt on the individual shown in the video. The court underscored the lack of forensic evidence linking Sammah to the case.
Judge Ibrahim Ihsan concluded that Sammah was found not guilty of murder with a sharp object.
Sammah and another individual also faced charges for carrying a sharp object without a valid reason. However, the court ruled sufficient evidence was not presented to substantiate this charge either.
