The Maldives government on Sunday contracted the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to carry out developmental projects on four islands.
According to the Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure, MTCC was awarded:
- Harbour expansion projects in Haa Dhaalu atoll Kulhudhuffushi and Noonu atoll Kendhikulhudhoo
- Shore protection projects in Kaafu atoll Himmafushi and Alifu Alifu atoll Mathiveri
The project awarding ceremony was held at the ministry. The ministry’s Director General, Fathimath Shaana Farooq, and the CEO of MTCC, Adam Azim, signed the agreement.
- Expansion of the existing seven jetties by four meters each
- Project Cost: MVR 13 million
- Duration: Eight months
- Dredging and excavation of the existing harbor channel
- Installation of groynes
- Project Cost: MVR 79 million
- Duration: One year and three months
- Construction of a 160-meter revetment on the south end of the island
- Project Cost: MVR 11.8 million
- Duration: Six months
- Construction of a 54-meter revetment on the west end of the island and other works
- Project Cost: MVR 24.8 million
- Duration: Eight months
While four new projects have been contracted to MTCC, the company is already executing several infrastructural development projects in various atolls across the Maldives.
