Goods worth MVR 4.7 billion were imported into the Maldives in April.
Statistics released by Maldives Customs show that the number of goods imported in April this year is 63 percent higher compared to the same period of last year. In 2021, goods worth MVR 2.9 billion were imported in April, during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Customs state that the revenue generated from imports increased by 37 percent compared to the same period last year. MVR 265 million was received as import revenues during April last year while MVR 362 million was received in April 2022.
Last month, the highest number of goods were imported to Maldives from Oman, India, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Malaysia and China.
Oman imported goods worth MVR 1.4 billion, while goods worth MVR 655 million were imported from India. UAE, Malaysia and China imported goods worth MVR 534 million, MVR 363 million, and MVR 350 million respectively.
Last month, most of the imported goods included food, fuel and machinery.
