As pledged by the president, a register for taxi drivers is being compiled where applications are available through the SIMS Portal. The president had previously pledged to offer drivers in this list various benefits such as social housing schemes.
The State has opened admissions into the national register for taxi drivers yesterday.
An announcement by the Transport Ministry stated that as per the “Week 14” roadmap of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the process for compiling a register of Maldivian taxi drivers has begun. The announcement states that admissions into the register of taxi drivers has been opened to the public.
The announcement directs the drivers desiring to be listed in the register to fill out and submit the required form available on the Transport Ministry’s SIMS Portal.
Compiling a list of taxi drivers was a presidential pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. He had additionally vowed during his campaign to offer social housing schemes and other opportunities to the people on the register following its compilation.
Deliberations on the compilation of this register had also ensued at a cabinet meeting last month. The discussions in the cabinet included the arrangement of digital payment for the ease of taxi drivers, making changes to the taxi services to incorporate the industry approach by foreign countries, and establishing an environmentally friendly taxi process.
