The State budget of India has an allocation of USD 93 million (MVR 1.4 billion) to be given to the Maldives.

As per the budget, this amount will be granted as free aid.

India has assigned USD 788 million to be given as grants and loans to various countries within 2024. The largest portion of this is assigned to go to Bhutan, coming up to a total of USD 94 million.

The second highest allocation has been made to the Maldives.

Other countries slated to receive aid include Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Mauritius and Seychelles.

While India has allocated such a significant amount in its budget to be granted to Maldives, relations between the two countries have become strained in recent weeks.

The Maldives' budget states that the country needs to seek grants worth MVR 1.4 billion from foreign countries. So far, none of this has been acquired.
