Expert Motor Services courier mugged at knifepoint

A courier of Expert Motor Services was mugged at knifepoint by three men in the capital city of Male' at approximately 2230 hours on Monday.

Police revealed that three men travelling on two motorbikes snatched more than MVR 560,000 from the courier, who was delivering the money to the company's office.

The incident occurred in the vicinity of the office of Expert Motor Services.

Recently, there has been a surge of robberies in Male' and the reclaimed suburb of Hulhumale'.

Information regarding arrests made in relation to many of these cases has not yet been disclosed. Additionally, the police have not detailed any preventive measures taken to curb the issue.

One of the latest cases was a knifepoint mugging which occurred in Hulhumale' on Sunday. During the robbery, masked men seized a considerable sum which belonged to a retail outlet based in the reclaimed suburb, while the money was being transported to the bank.

The police have not announced any arrests made in relation to the case.

Another MVR 250,000 was seized from a courier of Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM), who was transporting the money to the Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB)'s branch in Hulhumale for deposit.

Similarly, Ensis Fisheries Company, one of the biggest fish exporters in Maldives, was also robbed on July 31, 2018. Two masked men on a motorbike had snatched MVR 2.7 million while the money was being loaded onto a company van after withdrawal from the Mauritius Commercial Bank branch in Hulhumale.
