The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), on Monday, released a statement notifying government institutions to recover more than MVR 2.2 billion in lost funds.

The graft watchdog states that this figure represents losses from 27 cases investigated during the first nine months of 2018. Out of this, MVR 1.8 billion consists of damages from cases which ACC has now submitted to the Prosecutor General’s Office. Details regarding these cases have not yet been revealed.

The statement also confirmed that the government had managed to attain MVR 54,000 of the sum it was ordered to recover in 2018.

Former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom also created a body named the Commission on State Assets Recovery. Incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih created Presidential Committee on Corruption and Asset recovery shortly after his inauguration.

The Committee is also involved in the investigation of the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) scandal which is the largest corruption case to have been recorded in the Maldives to date.
