FENAKA Corporation said yesterday that the company was working to send a generator to Baa atoll's Kendhoo island on Wednesday, to help resolve the electricity outages there.

FENAKA has attributed the ongoing power outages to a malfunction in one of the island’s two 400 kW generators, which is causing water and fuel to mix. The island currently operates with two 400 kW generators and one 250 kW unit.

A technical team from the FENAKA's head office went to the village to resolve the issue and overhauled the generator set, a statement by FENAKA said.

After the overhauled the generator was in operation for 15 days before it started malfunctioning with other technical difficulties, the company said. Because of this, the generator set had to be shut down.

The company said the remaining two generator sets could not provide the maximum load required by the island, which led to power cuts from several feeders. However, a technical team was sent to the island on Tuesday night and power was restored to all part of Kendhoo by 1:15 am, FENAKA said.

As a permanent solution, a 400 kW would be sent to the island on Wednesday and made operational within 48 hours, the company said.

The situation left Kendhoo without power from Tuesday afternoon until a little after midnight.
