Villa College has launched two new degree programs: Bachelor of Quantity Surveying and Bachelor of Political Science and International Relations.
The programmes were launched by Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla at a special ceremony held at the college today.
Head of School of School of Computer Science Udhuma Abdul Latheef said that the Bachelor of Quantity Surveying programme offers new opportunities that were not available before in the Maldives in the field of infrastructural development.
This course would offer studies in quantifying materials needed for construction projects, financial and procurement processes of construction projects and legal affairs surrounding construction projects, she said.
The three year course would cover cost planning, assessment, building material calculation, cost reduction, cost estimates, building development techniques and building project management. It will provide the opportunity to find innovative solutions in the area, and will include industrial training for on the field experience.
Faculty of Sharia and Law's Senior Lecture Al Ustaz Aishath Khaleela spoke about the Bachelor of Political Science and International Relations program. She said that this programme would play a key role in building young political leaders. She emphasized that the programme has been designed in consideration of the changes in regional relations, international relations, and global politics, as well as the impact this is having on the economy.
This three year programme was designed by academics in Asia, and includes modules on the Maldives' legal system, third world politics, foreign policies, human rights and more. This programme is taught online as well.
Senior Curriculum Developer at Villa College Kashima Ahmed Shakir launched two books during the ceremony held today. Both books were also launched by Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla.
