Since inauguration, it has been over 21 days for the new government led by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

However, the absence of the President's Office Spokesperson has continued without any appointment for the position.

President Muizzu appointed several members to his cabinet and government ministries after his inauguration on November 17, 2023. Since then, President Muizzu has continued to appoint officials to various state bodies and agencies.

Despite it being 21 days since the new government assumed power, the President's Office has not appointed a spokesperson.

Communications Strategist of the President's Office, Ibrahim Khaleel, said on Thursday evening, December 7, that a spokesperson would be appointed to the office in the coming days.

Khaleel further added that President Muizzu aims to establish a transparent government, and work is underway toward that goal.

"Media units would be established in government ministries and corporations (state-owned enterprises) to expedite news correspondence to reporters; these efforts would persist," Khaleel said.

"It is not a policy of this government to designate President's Office as the only authority to relay the state's updates to the media."

Since his inauguration, President Muizzu has held two official press conferences to speak with local media.

Khaleel added that media will receive information without interruptions through him.
