On Sunday afternoon, a report emerged of assailants stabbing an individual after breaking and entering into a residence in Addu City.
This marks the second incident of violence reported from the southernmost city within the past two days.
The Maldives Police confirmed receiving a report of violence between two gangs in Addu City around 3:30 p.m.
A local male, aged 20 years, was assaulted with a sharp object during the confrontation, police said.
A witness to the incident reported that the victim was stabbed while he was inside his residence, and added that he was unconscious when he was transferred to Addu Equatorial Hospital.
Reports also suggest that Sunday's stabbing is believed to be a retaliation for the assault on Friday between two gangs in Hithadhoo, Addu City.
A 30-year-old man sustained serious injuries from a sharp object during Friday's altercation. Subsequently, four men aged 18, 19, 20, and 23 were arrested under a court warrant on suspicion of their involvement in the incident.
While the victim is currently receiving treatment at Addu Equatorial Hospital, the police have reported that he is in serious condition.
Additionally, the police reported that they have intensified security measures and increased patrolling across Addu City.
