PSM has acquired the rights to live broadcast all matches of the Euro Football Championships. They stated that the matches will be broadcast on TVM and YES TV, further assuring viewers are not required to pay a fee for it.
State media, Public Service Media (PSM) announced today that they have acquired live broadcasting rights for all matches of the UEFA European Football Championship set to begin next month.
Managing Director of PSM, Zeena Zahir said during a press briefing held by the company today that PSM is the sole Maldivian company granted the rights to broadcast the Euro Championships.
"The only local media granted the rights to broadcast Euro 2024 is PSM. God willing, [the Championship] will be broadcasted on PSM's Television Maldives (TVM) and YES TV," said Zeena.
She added that although arrangement have been made to broadcast all matches of Euro 2024 live on YES TV and TVM in Ultra HD, viewers are not required to pay an additional fee for this.
Highlighting public concern over the PSM's inability to stream the previous Euro Championships held in 2021, 'Euro 2020,' Zeena explained that this was due to unpaid payments owed to Sony Pictures Networks (SPN), the exclusive broadcaster of Euro 2024 in the Indian subcontinent.
She had also expressed gratitude for the government's cooperation in assisting PSM obtain broadcasting rights of the Championship today.
The UEFA Euro Football Championship is set to take place from June 14 to July 14 across ten German cities. The championship will feature a total of 51 matches with 24 teams competing.
