Project worth USD 57 million (MVR 882 million) to build hospitals in four islands in Maldives handed over to an Indian company on Monday.
In a ceremony held in the Health Ministry, the project to design and construct new buildings for the hospitals in Haa Alifu Dhidhoo, Raa Alifushi, Dhaalu Kudahuvadhoo, and Gaafu Alifu Villingi were awarded to Indian company Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL).
Minister of State for Health Ahmed Adil and Executive Director of Indian Company Atul Kumar Jain signed the agreement.
Under the agreement, a 50-bed hospital will be built in Dhidhoo, Kudahuvadhoo and Villingili. A 30-bed hospital to be built in Alifushi. However, the duration given to complete this project is unclear.
The ministry said this project is being carried under the policy of submitting unsolicited proposals. This project will be financed by Buyers Credit Scheme under India’s Exim Bank.
In addition to these hospitals, the Ministry has also announced that it is seeking parties to develop hospitals in other islands as well.
