CEO of Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) Ibrahim Yasir has stated that although the establishment of a catheterization laboratory in the hospital has concluded, there remains no means to begin patient treatments.

Speaking with Mihaaru News, he stated that the set-up of the cath lab has been completed with state of the art equipment. He assured that a cardiologist will be arriving into the country from overseas very soon to train nurses and begin treatments at the laboratory.

The cath lab will offer angiography procedures alongside invasive and non invasive procedures for the treatment of heart conditions.

Yasir stated the means to proceed continuous treatments with a single cardiologist must be investigated and further revealed that deliberations are ongoing with Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) to commence treatments at the laboratory.

The cath lab established during former President Abdulla Yameen's tenure is operated under the Meditrina Hospital in India. The agreement signed at the time for a duration of 10 years is set to expire on November 15, 2025.

"We do not have enough employees yet. Therefore, we are discussing with other parties as well. The cath lab will most probably be run through outsourcing," said Yasir.
