Two Maldivians were arrested in Sri Lanka late Wednesday over the possession of 1,925 ecstasy pills with a street value of over Rs. 10 million (MVR 900,000).
According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, Sri Lanka's Police Special Task Force (SPT) made the arrests during a raid at Dehiwala in capital Colombo.
The suspects aged 19 and 25, were residing at apartments in Kalubowila and Dehiwala, according to media reports. No further details on the two have been disclosed.
Media further reported that the two Maldivians had smuggled the pills from The Netherlands via a courier service. Police further accused the duo of selling the party drugs in Sri Lanka as well as exporting to other countries.
They have been handed over to Sri Lanka's Police Narcotic Bureau, which is investigating the case further.
