Bangladesh defeats Sri Lanka in the first match of the SAFF Championship in Maldives on Friday.
Topu Barman scored the only goal of the game after Bangladesh were awarded a penalty in the 56th minute.
The scoring chance was the result of the foul by Sri Lankan player Duckson Puslas. He was sent off with the second yellow card for the foul.
Sri Lanka prioritised defence in the first 30 minutes of the game.
The second match of the tournament will be between Nepal and Maldives. The final match will be held on October 16, after a total of ten matches are played.
While Pakistan and Bhutan are also a part of SAARC they are not participating in this year's SAFF Championship.
