Following the presidential elections of Sri Lanka, former Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena resigned on Monday.
Following his resignation, the new President of Sri Lanka Anura Kumara Dissanayake decided to appoint education field expert Amarasuriya to the post of Prime Minister.

In a post on social media X yesterday, President Muizzu extended congratulations to the Prime Minister, stating "I am confident that under your able leadership, Sri Lanka will see a new dawning of progress".
Amarasuriya is the third female Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.
