Ahmed Anwar (Simwar), a social media activist of previously MDP and later, The Democrats, has been given a key position at the Maldives High Commission in Sri Lanka.

Simwar, known for his anti-government activities during former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's tenure, has been appointed as the Second Secretary at the High Commission by the current government. Today, he commenced his duties at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In the past, Simwar held positions such as Senior Executive Director in the Economic Ministry and the Ministry of Health during the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

However, Simwar later resigned from the government and joined The Democratics after differences arose between President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the then MDP President, former President Mohamed Nasheed.

Since then, he has been actively engaged as a social media activist for The Democrats and played a role in supporting the party during elections.

Simwar assumed his role in President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration after resigning from his position as President of the Mahibadhoo constituency for The Democratic Party.

Simwar was in Sri Lanka independently during the final days of former President Yameen's rule.

In the current government, Simwar has been appointed to a position at the embassy, while actor Ali Seezan has been designated as the First Secretary of the embassy. Both have commenced their duties at the Maldives High Commission in Sri Lanka.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has earlier said that political appointments will be generally avoided, except under special circumstances.
