Local swimmers smashed five national records, at the 14th FINA World Swimming Championships, held in Hangzhou, China, from December 11-16, 2018.

Awarded the 'Most Promising Athlete' by 'Mihaaru Awards' in 2017, Mubal Azzam Ibrahim, renewed his 200m individual medley record, when he achieved a timing of 2 minutes and 26.35 seconds, along with his 200m freestyle record at 2 minutes 9.57 seconds.

Returning to her professional career following a five-year hiatus, Aishath Sausan broke Aminath Shajan's 100m butterfly national record, when she successfully finished her heat in a record time of one minute and 23.16 seconds, trimming 7.85 seconds from the previous national record.

Ali Imaan, established a new national record when he clocked one minute and 8.71 seconds in his 100m backstroke. Additionally, he broke the 50m breaststroke record by completing his heat in 31.16 seconds. Both these records previously belonged to Imaan.
