Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has stated in an announcement that businesses continue to operate on privately owned land lots following the demolition of unauthorized food stalls placed in the Hulhumale' Phase 2 beach area.
HDC urged lot owners to remain cautious of unlawful business operations in these lots, emphasizing that such activities are against the law.
Residents of Phase 2 have been operating various food businesses inside huts placed at the 'Ruhgandu' area and the beach area. HDC had earlier ordered the removal of these huts before June 15 to facilitate further development of the area, as these businesses are operated without a permit.
Following the deadline, HDC demolished all huts that remained in the area and cleared the premises.
According to regulations, huts can only be operated in Hulhumalé with kiosk operating permits once HDC announces for applications.
Currently there are many such kiosks being run in Hulhumalé Phase 1, which are regularly monitored by HDC.
