Maldives concludes the tournament as champion of the ranking match

Maldives' Men's Cricket team has concluded the Cricket Challenger Cup after triumphing in their match against Bhutan in the Rank playoffs while the National Women's Cricket team will begin their Primary Cup in Malaysia today.

Maldives has finished the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Men's Challenger Cup as champions of the Rank playoffs for team that did not proceed to the Knockouts with 32 scores against Bhutan.

During the T20 innings, strikes made by the team led to 137 scores. During this match, Maldives’ opening best man Azyan Farhath had collected 43 scores with 45 balls without a strike.

In return, Bhutan’s players had resumed the court and collected 105 scores. Ibrahim Hassan of the Maldivian team had collected 4 wickets during this inning.

Maldives had concluded the group stages without a win. Following the defeat at the hands of Singapore and Japan in the first two matches, they had also suffered defeat at the hands of Thailand.

The match with Thailand concluded with an 8-wicket difference. During the Maldives toss, they had collected 127 scores within the 20 overs. Azyan had collected 66 scores with 56 balls without a strike during this inning. However, Thailand had accumulated 128 points with 2 players striking out within just 9.4 overs and triumphed this match.

Following the challengers cup, the Maldivian team will play a series with 4 countries in Thailand before returning home. In addition to Maldives and Thailand, the remaining competitors are Saudi Arabia and Bhutan.

National Women’s cricket team will also begin the ACC Women’s Premier Cup in Malaysia today. While the 16 teams competing in the group stage has been distributed to 4 groups, Maldives is included with Nepal, Bhutan and Hong Kong in Group D.

Following the play against Bhutan in the first match, Maldives will be competing with Hong Kong. They will face off with Nepal after the Group Stages.

While the best two teams of each group will qualify for the Quarter Finals, the four team who proceed to the Semi Finals will compete in the ACC Women’s T20 Emerging Team Asia Cup held next year. Additionally, slots in this year’s Women’s T20 Asian Cup will also be secured by the two teams that proceed to the finals.
