Football Association of Maldives has announced an extraordinary congress to be held next Thursday in order to establish the formation of committees neglected by the association for the previous four years.

The President of the Association, Bassam Adeel Jaleel had begun his second term at the institute after the congress on July 2020. In addition to executive committees, the congress must also establish the formation of other committees with a four year term.

However, FAM has not yet formed these Judicial committees as stated in the association’s guidelines.

The issue regarding the absence of these committees resurfaced with the FAM election’s contender Ahmed Thoriq (Tom)’s complaints about the association’s lacks of a legitimate electoral committee during his appeal against the cancellation of his candidacy. In addition to the absence of an Appeal Committee, neither an Ethics Committee nor Disciplinary Committee has been formed.

The agenda of the congress has been distributed to the club members. As stated in the 6th number of the agenda, selection of members for the Appeal Committee and Disciplinary Committee included in the Judicial Committees will ensue. Furthermore, members will also be appointed for the Electoral Committee and Electoral Appeals Committee as included in the 8th number of the agenda.

Despite the previous establishment of the electoral committee, the decision to form a new committee was made due to the resignation of the chairperson of the committee, Ahmeem Abdul Razzaq. He had resigned from his post last month while election related issues were surfaced.
