The Commonwealth has appointed an adviser to develop a climate change fund in the Maldives.
According to the Commonwealth website, its Commonwealth Climate Finance Access Hub has appointed climate finance advisers to Maldives, Seychelles and Nauru, a small country in Oceania.
According to the Commonwealth, Sagar Srijan Joshi, an American of Indian descent, was appointed to the Maldives and will be working with the country's Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Technology.
The adviser will be assisting to build human and institutional capacity to fund climate change projects and develop climate fund strategies.
The Commonwealth stated that small countries like the Maldives have little capacity to access climate finance.
According to the Commonwealth, the Climate Finance Access Hub had 18 advisers deployed to Commonwealth member states across Africa, the Pacific and the Caribbean as of this month and fund development is currently carried out by 14 advisers in small nations.
The Climate Finance Access Hub has raised USD 250 million for 67 projects in Commonwealth member countries.
