The campaign teams of incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed have both said that their exit polls indicate that their respective candidates will win the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s presidential primary.

Nasheed’s campaign released a statement shortly after the polls closed saying that their exit polls indicated that Nasheed would secure 64.7 percent of the votes.

Solih’s team tweeted that he will win 67 percent of the votes, according to their exit polls.

At 5:00 p.m., the tumultuous polls were closed after a number of disruptions at polling stations across the nation.

Solih, during his campaign trail, said that he would respect the MDP members' decision and back the winning candidate. However, Nasheed maintained that he would not have to concede because he would win.

Currently, votes are being tallied.
