Bank of Maldives (BML) has donated 33 motorised wheelchairs in an effort to support people with mobility impairments.

Since the program's launch in 2017, more than 200 motorised wheelchairs have been successfully distributed around the Maldives.

Speaking about the initiative, the bank’s CEO Karl Stumke said, “Supporting vulnerable communities has always been important to the bank. The wheelchair donation program has been instrumental in improving the lives of so many disabled people and their families”.

Stumke also expressed gratitude to the bank’s staff for their commitment in delivering the wheelchairs across the country.

The country’s national bank continues to support people with disabilities through various programs. BML most recently, donated educational tools to aid Special Education Needs (SEN) students in 10 different schools across Maldives.

Additionally, the bank has partnered with Maldives Deaf Association to conduct special activities on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Earlier in 2022, the bank supported the association with the development of a sign language dictionary as part of BML’s strategy to empower and promote the rights of deaf community in Maldives.

The bank has also supported Maldives Association for Persons with Disabilities to run its accessible transportation program for individuals with disabilities.
