President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has assured to revising the policies to ensure more local companies receive opportunities to execute developmental projects.
While speaking at the Builders Awards ceremony organized by Maldives Association of construction Industry (MACI), President Muizzu highlighted the importance of ending the monopoly of foreign contractors in the Maldives urban development and construction sector.
"If we need to make amendments to the laws and regulations, we will reform them with your advice and feedback. If we need to revise the awarding policies, we will make the necessary changes to them as well," President Muizzu said.
President Muizzu further stated that the government's focus on revitalizing the sovereignty and national identity of the Maldives is aimed at providing comprehensive freedom for the Maldivian citizens.
President Muizzu promised to enhance opportunities for growth and prosperity for local companies and professionals aligned with the aforementioned stance of the government.
During the ceremony, the President also emphasized the importance of creating an inclusive construction industry. He promised to collaborate with MNACI, relevant government bodies, and stakeholders in seeking employment opportunities for women and persons with disabilities as part of this inclusivity.
President Muizzu affirmed greater opportunities for local construction companies to secure government-initiated projects.
He highlighted the Fushidhiggaru Falhu reclamation project for the development of the RasMalé eco-city and assured the involvement of the Maldivian construction sector in the mega project.
