President instructs to amend laws to strengthen security State Powers

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has informed to bring the necessary changes to the current laws to strengthen security provided to of Chief Justice and Majilis Speaker.

The terror attack targeted at Majilis Speaker Mohamed Nasheed lead to several life-saving surgeries. He is currently being treated in ADK. So far three people have been arrested on this issue.

In the cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, President informed Attorney General Ibrahim Riffath to bring the necessary amendments to existing laws to ensure the head of the state powers is provided better protection.

President's Office stated that if this was not possible to achieve by amending the current laws, the President had instructed Attorney General to draft a new bill that would ensure more protection for them.

State protection to the President, Majilis Speaker, and Chief Justice is provided by MNDF. However, even though the state provides an official residence to the President, Majilis Speaker and Chief Justice are not provided residences by the state.
