Travel industry may not get room for a breather in light of the new Omicron variant of the Covid-19 pandemic while several countries are acting up fast to restrict international travels in their respective bids to curtail the spread. However, it still does not mean that the industry has come to a standstill. Many are packing their bags to head to different places despite the challenges amid the global pandemic and understandably so; most of us have not stepped out of our home town since 2020.

One thing is certain; travel trends and popularity of locations are dynamically shifting owing to the extent of safety ensured from countries. With that in mind, here are some of the locations that are currently 'sitting' on the safer end of the spectrum – and perhaps the amplest places for you to visit.

Antigua and Barbuda

The twin islands are blessed with miles-long pristine white and pink sand beaches while Antigua boasts to host the longest running Sunday party in the Caribbean. Barbuda is notable for it being a favorite of Princess Diana while many high-profile celebrities have called it their perfect vacation spot.

The islands have started to gain momentum in tourism and travel circuits due to their efforts on sustainable tourism with many green initiatives in the kitty. The islands have banned single-use plastics while they are famous for environmentally friendly hotels, resorts and businesses.

Add to this the remoteness and the assured safety due to having a more rural or countryside vibe than the bustling noises of metropolitan cities and urban neighborhoods.

Bissagos Islands, Guinea-Bissau

The archipelago consists of 88 islands out of which 23 are residential slips. The Bissagos Islands rest about 48 kilometers off of the Guinea coast of western Africa.

What stands out the most is the community of these islands; the Bissagos Islands are run by a matriarchal society which means to state that women hold all the power – the rest is history. But this fact alone makes it a splendid destination for those who are willing to observe and experience unique cultures.

Most importantly, this UNESCO Biosphere Reserve is home to some eye-catching beaches fringed with expansive natural parks and calmer blue waters surrounding the islands.

Cape Breton, Nova Scotia

Getting here means to travel a mile-long causeway connecting Canadian mailand to Nova Scotia. This place of immense beauty is famous for scenic vistas and historically prolific landmarks. Most of those who visit Cape Breton do not miss their chance to visit Cabot Trail which runs through the Cape Breton Highlands National Park.

Canada's efforts in promoting indigenous tourism in Cape Breton has ensured that the cultural sites and landmarks are now well protected and preserved.

Lahti, Finland

Consistently ranked as the "happiest place in the world", Finland is comparatively less talked about in terms of global tourism destinations. The lakeside city of Lahti is picturesque feels like it is straight out of a painting from a fine artist.

Lying neatly about a 100 kilometers northeast of Helsinki, Lahti is beautiful and green. The city is jam-packed with impressive forests, parks and even reserves with hiking trails and lookout spots. In addition to this, the city's commitment towards environmental innovations lead Lahti to become the first Finnish city to be appointed as the European Green Capital.

At a time when hygiene, cleanliness and safe social distancing are encouraged, this city that boasts an innovative groundwater system certified by UNESCO goes is a testament to Lahti's commitment towards eco-friendly initiatives.

These are the most notable places to visit in 2022 (so far!) but there is no denying that as the months pass we will definitely need to revisit the list and make some serious changes to it.
