Coronavirus: 2 Maldivians in placed isolation, no symptoms

The government on Thursday, revealed that two Maldivians were under observation in Farukolhufushi, Kaafu Atoll, as part of its precautionary border control measures to curb the Novel Coronavirus outbreak.

Briefing the press, Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed stressed that the Maldivians that were inbound from China, did not exhibit any symptoms of the virus and that authorities were only following procedure.

Moreover, Minister Waheed noted that 11 Chinese tourists were also under the state care after they were refused boarding to depart the country, and were set to depart Thursday evening.

Authorities are working in collaboration with industry stakeholders to ensure "seamless" arrangements for all outbound tourists. As of February 6, the government has assisted eight Argentinians and 16 Chinese tourists in securing their departure.

Boardroom@CrisisBV's Chief Executive Officer Glenn C. Schoen, a Consultant for the administration's screening mechanisms, noted that his team of experts assisted in setting up of "top-of-the-line" cameras and additional mobile deployable systems.

Over 75 frontline staff working on the multi-agency operation were trained under the consultant.
