Another Chinese airline, Chongqing has begun direct flights to Maldives yesterday, with trips of the airline scheduled each Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week. The first flight of this airline landed in the country yesterday.

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) stated that the airline will fly to Maldives three days a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The first flight of Chongqing Airline had landed in Maldives yesterday with 82 passengers.
This marks the fourth Chinese airline to commence scheduled trips in Maldives with Beijing Capital Airlines, China Eastern Airlines and Sichuan Airline also accommodating direct trips between Maldives and China. Another Chinese airline, Xiamen had also chartered flights between the two countries last February.
Last year also saw the Chinese Southern Airlines charter some trips between Maldives and China as well.
Meanwhile, Hong Kong Airline, also located in the region has been commencing direct flights to Maldives in addition to Chinese airlines.
While direct trips from another Chinese airline was established, China currently produces the highest number of tourists arrivals into Maldives. Over 113,000 Chinese tourists have visited Maldives thus far, accounting for 12 percent of the total tourist arrivals into the country. Maldives has also observed a 10 percent increase in tourist arrivals this year compared to 2023 with a stream of 980,000 total tourist arrivals recorded within the year.
