Former MTCC CEO Adam Azim has decided to contest in the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) primaries for the ticket to run for the Male' Mayor position.
Azim stated that he had reached the decision to run for Mayor with the intention of providing solutions for a variety of issues faced in Male', and because he believes he has the confidence of the public in his capability to do so.
"The people have gained a lot of confidence in me, they accept me as a resourceful person," Azim said.
Azim stated that he has drafted a plan for Male' City, and said it would soon be publicized.
Although MDP has not yet announced the date of the mayoral primaries, applications for it will close at 4 PM on Friday.
The post of Male' Mayor became vacant after the former Mayor Dr Mohamed Muizzu resigned from his post to assume Presidency after his victory in the September presidential election.
Elections Commission has announced that the by-elections for the Mayoral position will be held on January 13, 2024.
Other potential candidates for the mayoral position include former Youth Minister Ahmed Mahloof, City Councilor Mohamed Saif Fathih, former Attorney General Aishath Azima Shakoor and former Commissioner of Police Hussain Waheed.
