Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer has called on the international community to ensure that the rule of law is upheld by all to end the genocide being committed by Israel in Palestine.

The Minister made these remarks at the Open-ended Extraordinary Meeting of the Executive Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) being currently held in Saudi Arabia.

Zameer condemned the assassination of the Chief of the Political Bureau of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh.

He went on to highlight that Israel's genocidal acts in Gaza continue even ten months on, mourning the increasing number of deaths and displaced persons, as well as the destruction in Gaza.

He highlighted that sufficient progress has not been made to date to end the genocide, emphasizing that for this to happen the rule of law must be held by all, and Israel should be held accountable for the acts of brutality that they continue to commit.

"What is disappointing is that international law and international humanitarian law is being challenged without any repercussions," he said.

Zameer called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, and to open humanitarian corridors for the safe passage of crucial aid and services.

He asserted that, "Palestine must be established as an independent and sovereign state based on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital".

The Minister assured Maldives' commitment to the Palestinian cause will remain steadfast.
