World Health Organization (WHO) appointed Director-General of the Health Protection Agency (HPA) Hassan Mohamed to the South-East Asian Technical Advisory Group on Immunization.

The Ministry of Health released a press statement confirming that Hassan would serve as an honorary member of the Technical Advisory Group for two years during which he will be tasked with providing relevant councel to the Regional Director (RD).

The current RD for South East Asia is Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh.

The ministry highlighted Hassan's contribution in the efforts towards the prevention of life-style-related illnesses in the country and smoking cessation efforts since the year 2000. He was also instrumental in implementation efforts since 2004 after Maldives adopted the International Treaty on Tobacco Control. Hassan is also the main focal point in the country for the treaty.

Hassan served on the Presidential Board on Tobacco Control, created in the year 2010, and oversaw considerable work concerning the implementation of tobacco control laws introduced in the same year.

In addition to managing the NCD Division of HPA Hassan has worked in the high-level steering committee initiated by Health Ministry since the year 2016.
