Maldives relay team renews national record

The female relay team, on Friday, renewed the national record for the 4x100 relay at the South Asian Games (SAG).

Team members Mariyam Alha, Aishath Himna Hassan, Rifa Mohamed and Saara Masoodh completed the relay in 50:16 seconds.

The gold medal was secured by the Sri Lankan team, which finished in 44:89 seconds.

The previous national record was set in Guwahati, India during the 2016 SAG by the previous women's relay team which consisted of Afa Ismail, Aminath Nazra, Samha Ahmed and Mirufath Ahmed.

In the 2010 SAG, the men's national relay team brought home a bronze medal. The team, consisting of prominent runner Hassan Saaidh, Ibadullah Adam, Nujoom Hassan and Mohamed Jalaail Fayaz completed the 4 x100 relay in 42:34 seconds. The Sri Lankan team also took gold during these games with a time of 39:14 seconds.

Maldives' most notable achievement at the 2019 SAG is Saaidh's gold medal in the men's 100-metres event and his bronze finish in the men's 200-meter dash. The women's table tennis team also bagged a bronze medal.
