Two people have been arrested for attempting to flee after a hit-and-run incident involving a police officer with a car.
Assistant Commissioner and Spokesperson of Police Ahmed Shifan told Mihaaru News that two individuals had attempted to flee in a car when police arrived at the scene in Hulhumale' phase 1 last Saturday evening following reports of violence in the area.
However, when a police officer intercepted the car by standing in front of it and requesting it to stop, the car initially idled. But once the police officer moved to the side of the car, the individuals inside attempted to flee the scene, running over the officer's leg in the process. According to Shifan, when the car tried to reverse, the officer managed to get up and attempted to stop the vehicle by grabbing the steering wheel.
Shifan said that two other officers on motorbikes in the area had also attempted to stop the vehicle, but the car sped away.
