Foreigner who passed away "mutilated" in the incident

Witnesses claim that the foreigner who passed away after being struck by a speedboat while fishing for groupers near Alif Dhaalu atoll Dhangethi had been mutilated in the incident.

The person who died in the incident is a Bangladesh national who is a crew member of a vessel named "Twins," which belongs to Faafu atoll Feeali.

Speaking about the incident, Dhangethi Council president Muaviyath Rasheed told Mihaaru news that the person had sustained grave injuries when he was taken to the hospital.

"....the person was mutilated, his body was separated from the waist down. He suffered grave injuries. Even his head was in a similar condition."

"His body has been bound together by the hospital staff."

Muaviyath said that the incident occurred in an area frequented by people for grouper fishing. It is also a route frequently used by speedboats for travel to Male', he said.

"They were near a reef close to the island to fish for groupers. The incident occurred when a speedboat enroute to Male' from Maamigili struck the Bangladeshi man."

A person speaking from the island said that the speedboat driver claimed they had been traveling during sunrise hours today and was unable to spot whether there were people in the sea due to the glare of the sun.

In a circulating video, individuals fishing for groupers were seen with safety flags hoisted in their baskets, complying with safety measures.

While the police are currently investigating the matter, they have not yet revealed additional information regarding the incident. However, the speedboat driver responsible for the accident has been arrested.
