Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced on Wednesday that tourists who have not received the COVID-19 vaccine will be allowed to travel to islands if certain conditions have been met.

Prior to this change, guesthouses were allowed to only check in people that had been inoculated against COVID-19, and if 14 days had passed since second dose. However, with the new change, unvaccinated tourists will be allowed to islands depending on their vaccination rates.

Unvaccinated people will only be allowed to islands with a vaccination rate of 60 percent. Additionally, the people that work with tourists in these islands will have to have a vaccination rate of 95 percent.

It is also mandatory that 90 percent of the people above the age of 65 are fully vaccinated for this new development to go into affect.

If an unvaccinated tourist travels to an administrative island, they will be required to do a PCR test seven days after checking in.

Most islands in Maldives have inoculation rates above 60 percent at the moment.
