Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) has pressed charges against five people involved in blocking President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's motorcade.

PGO has informed the Criminal Court regarding the charges.

President Solih's motorcade was blocked by opposition supporters in front of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) on March 20, while President Solih was arriving to Malé after attending a ceremony in Hulhumalé.

The motorcade had to turn around because they could no go forward from that point.

The five people arrested in connection to this case were charged with obstructing the implementation of the constitution in addition to obstruction of other work as well. However, it is not yet clear who the charges were pressed against.

This is the first time the president's motorcade was stopped in Maldives.

Abdulla Ibrahim, who was then the commanding officer of the Presidential Guards, was removed from his duties on the grounds that the president's security had failed. However, later it was decided that he was not negligent and his suspension was revoked and his position was elevated.
