BML appoints a South African national as new CEO

Bank of Maldives (BML) has appointed its newest Chief Executive Officer.

The national bank of the Maldives appointed Mr. Karl Stumke, a South African National as its new Chief.

According to the bank, Sumke brings over 36 years of experience in leading banks at Executive Board level. His portfolio includes senior and executive level positions at banks in regions such as the Middle East, Africa, Indian Oceans and the UK.

Prior to his appointment as BML's CEO, he most recently held the CEO position of Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait.

Sumke had first joined the bank back in 2010, where he first held the International General Manager position, later holding the position of CEO at the bank's UAE branch in 2017.

Before his tenure at the Al Ahli Bank, Stumke held the Corporate Director position at the Bahrain's Bank Muscat International, and the Regional Manager to Mauritius at Barclays Bank.

Stumke is an associate of the Chartered Institute of Banks, South Africa. He attained Bachelors in Accounting Science at the University of South Africa, and followed it by completing various executive programs in France, Switzerland and South Africa during his career.

The bank assures assistance and rapport with its new CEO towards achieving its strategic objectives.

Commenting on behalf of Stumke, BML claims the bank's top priority remains in providing revolutionary and innovative services to its expanding customer base.

Speaking about his latest tenure, Stumke was all praises for the Bank of Maldives, claiming the national bank enjoyed a rich and successful history.
