Tourist arrivals to the Maldives reach close to 900,000 as of July 18, reports the Ministry of Tourism.
The ministry confirms tourist arrivals reached a total of 892,960 by the review date, indicating a 58.2 percent annual increment when compared with the corresponding period of 2021.
In 2021, total tourist arrivals for the same period stood at just 564,472.
Despite strong improvements in arrival numbers, the total arrival count is still 4.8 percent below pre-pandemic levels in 2019; which was reported at 937,802.
India maintains its first rank with a market share of 14.7 percent while United Kingdom is ranked second with a market share of 11.7 percent.
Russia, which is locked in a geopolitical struggle with Ukraine, is the third strongest single-country source market to the Maldives with a market share of 10.4 percent.
Meanwhile, a total of 1,168 tourist properties with a combined bed capacity of 57,489 beds are currently at operational capacity; including tourist resorts, guesthouses, safari vessels and other similar tourist avenues.
