Two of four suspects arrested over allegedly doing sorcery to bring Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to power, were released on Saturday.
The police arrested four people in Kulhudhuffushi, Haa Dhaal Atoll, last week under accusations of 'black magic' in an attempt to ensure the main opposition's victory in the impending Presidential Election. The suspects include the island council's Permanent Secretary Ismail Ibrahim and Senior Administrative Officer Hussain Ali, along with two civilians.
While the Kulhudhuffushi Magistrate Court had extended their remand once before, Ismail Ibrahim and one of the civilians were released Saturday after they were presented for their remand hearing.
However the court added 10 days to the remands of Hussain Ali and the other civilian.
The police had also raided the councillors' residences under a court warrant in relation to the case last week.
